The global alternative data market is projected to grow from USD 6.32 billion in 2025 to USD 40.35 billion by 2035, according to a new study from Credence Research released on October 21. The firm estimates the market will reach USD 7.56 billion in 2026, which works out to about 20.37% annualized growth over ten years. It credits rising demand from AI developers and corporations buying data.

Alternative data refers to information beyond traditional financial statements and market prices that investors and companies use to understand business activity. Credence's study covers card and receipt transactions, web traffic and app usage, web-scraped data, geolocation and foot traffic, satellite and weather data, social and sentiment data, and other ESG, employment and business-to-business data. Card and receipt transactions were the largest data type with a 22.4% share. Web-scraped data is the fastest-growing type at 24.00% a year, supported by price monitoring, job-posting analysis and licensed AI data feeds. Among buyers, technology and AI developers are growing fastest at 28.50% a year.

North America accounted for 57.3% of 2025 revenue, followed by Europe at 22.1%, Asia Pacific at 14.6%, Latin America at 3.1% and the Middle East and Africa at 2.9%. Credence says these shares reflect where buyers are located. The report notes that vendors increasingly sell the same underlying data to different groups of buyers, and that companies delivering clean data through APIs and data marketplaces can reach customers beyond hedge funds. It points to Bloomberg's 2025 integration of Similarweb traffic data as an example of that route to market.

Market-size forecasts for alternative data vary widely between research firms. Future Market Insights estimates USD 22.9 billion by 2036, while Fortune Business Insights projects USD 349.62 billion by 2034 and Precedence Research projects USD 854.34 billion by 2035, largely because each defines the market differently. Credence says its figures are its own estimates and not company-reported results, and the release is a promotion for a paid report. The full study is available from Credence Research.
